My New Appreciation for Our Constitution

On June 6, 2010, My husband and I left our home in Las Vegas at 0600 on our motorcycles to meet up with Dave and ride to Boise, Idaho to participate in the Best of the West, Motorcycle Riders Foundation seminar.

I wore my typical legal, but very small helmet. When we were stopped at a red light at an intersection, a Nevada State Trooper pulled up next to my left side at an angle. My husband was on my right and both of our bikes are loud. The trooper rolled her passenger’s window down, pointed to her head, and hollered out to me, “Hey, what’s that?”

I said, in a loud voice to be heard over the loud bikes, “My helmet.”

The light turned green and we crossed the intersection.

Quiz:

1. Was this Trooper’s question to me an appropriate question? Why or why not?

2. What do you think happened next?

Josh, your post made me smile :)

I doubt that trooper smiled that entire day.

When I started wearing my tiny helmet, I expected to get stopped and cited. I looked forward to getting a good "frisking" by some hot cop. But, alas, I would not have wanted to be frisked by this mean, girl-trooper - just my luck :(

On the bright side, her actions caused me to get very smart, very quickly! That day was the beginning of my investigation into a much bigger issue: why do "the fuzz" seem to hate motorcycle riders?

What I'm discovering is fascinating and I hope you stay tuned ;)
